[It's early. Too early. Norma groans as the sunlight from outside hits her smack in the face, and she squeezes her eyes shut as she curls up in her bed, putting a pillow over her head to block the light. Ugh...no...not yet! Go away, sun, she still wants to sleep in for a few more hours! It's too early to get up on a Saturday morning. Yet, even at Norma's best, she cannot beat the blazing sun and grunts as she sits up in bed, grumbling and flinging the blankets off herself. Unknown to the young teenager, she actually left her journal on her bed last night, and the action of swinging her sheets off knocks the journal against the wall, having it fall open and immediately start recording. It's a shame she's still half asleep right now, too, otherwise she would have actually noticed that happening. Oh well.

Norma sniffs, climbing out of bed and scratching her untidy bedhead, looking properly frazzled after a long, wondrous night of sleep. If only she could still be within its majestic arms... Whatever, maybe she'll take a nap today, after lunch or something. As she contemplates such things, and heads toward the bathroom to wash up, she stops in front of her mirror, staring at her reflection.]

Mmh... [Shifting positions, Norma raises a brow and puffs out her lower lip.] Huuh...oooh... [And after taking a step closer to the mirror, she smooths down the front of her shirt, running her hands over her chest, watching her reflection and how her little breasts just barely peek out from the tightened material. Norma sighs, then lets the shirt go and grumbles angrily.]

Another year...and no progress at all. Come on, you guys! We're gonna have some serious issues here pretty soon. I mean, I feed you, I water you, I'm even talking to you right now! The least you could give me back is a few inches! I'm not talking G-Girl level, but get real! This [Yeah, she's pretty much grabbing her boobs right now, glaring at her reflection.] is not okay. You guys gotta get a move on, I mean it. I'm not gonna wait around forever. You've got til next year to grow at least three inches, got it? Three inches or we're over.

And what would you wish for, Glasses?

[She's asked this question before, a while ago, but this chick she's never seen or talked to before, as far as Norma can remember. Plus, she's curious was such a stone-faced girl would want.]

[That... is a lot harder to admit. She has a quick, fleeting thought of her family coming together better, of each of them showing their better natures enough to really make a bond with each other.

Of fitting in better without having to compromise herself.

But these are not things she can say, especially to a stranger, so she retreats behind those glasses and that detached voice.]

I'm not the wishing type.

[Neither was I. Those words are halted before they reach her lips, and Norma bites her lower one for a second before curling it upwards in a smirk. Ha..haha, almost let that slip, whoops! But she kind of understands where this girl's coming from. The logical, brainy sort, huh? She's kinda like how she herself was before she met a certain someone to mentor her.]

Oooh, you're no fun at all. Buuut I guess I can kind of understand, I guess? Work hard and get what you want yourself and all that junk, right? Can't say I didn't do my fair share of that, either. [Still--] ...There's just some things you can't get without wishing for it.

I didn't get into college by wishing. I got in by studying the material for twelve years of school so that I had the grades and test scores the schools I wanted to go to would want to see.

[Note she doesn't mention extra-curricular activities. She never did see the point in them, even if they would have looked good.]

[Lol, if you actually think Norma would even know what that meant, you have another thing coming, she knows a few of the scholarly terms, being a scholar herself way back in the day, but still...different worlds, different terms and slang. She does, thankfully, know what "school" and "studying" and "books" are, though.]

Call...age? Uh--oh! Oh, you're a scholar! Jeeez...now it makes plenty of sense why you act to stuffy! Hahahaa, you sound just like I did when I was still studying at the institute! Wow, that's so creepy!

[She'll take 'scholar' over 'brain', at least. Not as many negative connotations intended behind it. Unless that 'stuffy' is any indication.

Sigh.

On the other hand, she counts moving the conversation away from breast size to be a victory.]

I may regret this, but I'm curious. Why did you drop out?

Oh, that's easy! [Or, well, it would be easy if this wasn't Norma she were talking to, and if the topic of conversation wasn't deeply personal and not exactly something Norma likes to share the finer details of. So, she gives her usual vague and enigmatic answer--]

To chase a dream. Or, I guess, to be really specific, since we were on the topic before...to fulfill a wish.

[She can respect that drive, even if she doesn't share it, though she has to think college would still be smarter. A fallback plan if the 'dream' doesn't work out.]

So what will you do if the dream doesn't come true?

It already did.

[A huge, satisfied grin lights up Norma's face. Ah...she really does wish she could rub it in all the people who told her it was a fool's journey's faces. Alas. But at least she fulfilled her and Sven's wish, so it's not a complete bust. That's all that matters. Now, if only she could figure out what the old prune Zamaran was up to now that he could see again...]

Congratulations. I guess you're one of those success stories they keep away from the 'stay in school' lectures.

Hahahaa, I guess so! But I'll be honest when I say it wasn't easy to get there. Literally and metaphorically speaking. I...wooouldn't exactly suggest doing what I did unless you've got the determination to really go for it.

I mean, even I wasn't sure I'd get there. There was no proof what I was looking for even really existed until I actually, y'know, found it. Had a lot of doubts and troubles along the way.

It's probably intentional, but you're being cryptic again.

I think I understand, though. [Or rather, she thinks of Jane: a talented artist without much confidence. It had taken a lot for her to put herself out there to chase that artistic dream. It's not the same, but it's enough to imagine from.]

[Heh, cryptic? Yes, it's indeed intentional, but Norma doesn't say much on that subject other than a light shrug of her shoulders. She's show enough of herself to people as it is - her life's story is something she kind of wants to maintain the privacy of. It's a lot more painful and bittersweet than most people think, given her disposition.]

So long as you get it, then that saves me the trouble of having to explain it. I guess that just means there's nothing more than to wish you luck on whatever you do once we're outta here huh? Have fun in your institute with all the stuffies, Glasses! Hopefully you make a better impact on the education system than I did while I was enrolled.

[Daria tilts her head. She had more than her share of run-ins with the school administrations, starting with 'she needs to socialize with her peers better' and moving on to 'we don't think the relevant message in her project is positive enough so we've taken the liberty of changing it ourselves'. And that's not mentioning the stops along the way like 'why is it bad to let the school be overrun with advertising for unhealthy products?'

Sooo, she may not really have had much of a positive impact on the educational system.]

I'm not so sure I've done that, either. [But she supposes she's glad she didn't back down or compromise herself in the process.]
